Flickrmap - Map Flickr Photos on your Website [+]
Mark Zeman writes "Flickrmap.com is a web service that launched last week allowing you to put a flash based world map on your own website or blog. Flickrmap will then automatically search your photos at Flickr for location information and plot the photos on your own Flickrmap, on your own website. It's as simple as tagging your Flickr photos with a city and country name! Flickrmap also supports photos that have been geotagged or photos that have location data encoded in their EXIF properties. There's a rapidly growing community of Flickr users who add location information to their photos, with over 95,000 geotagged photos at Flickr."
Flickr Adds Geotagging 3 comments [+]
The Map Room and scrappad, along with Slashdot, discuss the addition of geotagging photos in Flickr. From the official blog: "There are a couple of short video tutorials (or "screencasts") which give the 90 second overview on how to geotag your own photos and how to use all the controls for searching and exploring geotagged photos. [...] But if you just want to jump in and start geotagging, open the new 'map' tab in the organizr and go for it. It's all drag and drop and easy to figure out. Since location information has its own privacy setting -- so you can keep the location the photo was taken private, even when the photo is public -- you'll be asked to set a default privacy setting before beginning."
Picasa Web Albums Integration with Google Maps and Earth [+]
The Google Earth Blog discuss the new photo geocoding capabilities of Picasa Web Albums. Picasa, the application, was already able to to geocode photos in collaboration with Google Earth. From the official blog;: "First, we're excited to let you know about 'Map My Photos' -- it lets you show exactly where you took your favorite snapshots. When you share an album with friends, they can see your best photos arrayed on a map (or even Google Earth). It's the perfect way to showcase a memorable road trip or a globe-trotting vacation. [...] But wait! There's more. We're also launching the first version of Picasa Web Albums built specifically for mobile devices." Meanwhile, Ogle Earth compares this new offering with Flickr and Panoramio.
Flickr Adds geoFeed/GeoRSS and KML Support 1 comment [+]
The Geobloggers blog announces the support in Flickr for GeoRSS and KML. From the post: "geoFeed: This is the good old fashioned RSS feed, but only of the photos that have location information. [...] Why? You may ask, are you calling it a geoFeed and not geoRSS? Well, I’d say, that’s a good question. And the answer is probably because it’s actually just a RSS feed that includes geo information, in ‘geoRSS’ format and W3C format. [...] In Flickr’s case the KML we’re throwing out is a Network Link, that’s wraps up the actual KML. Each hour, or when you restart Google Earth, it’ll go and get the latest 20 (sorry no more than 20, the next logical step is KML output direct from the API for things like that) geotagged photos."
