Anonymous Voxel writes "With Unype you can control another user's Google Earth, and you can show them your model interactively, in real-time, without having to email them placemarks. Unype lets you connect to and lead or follow another user in Google Earth (using Skype, no need to signup or register, just use your existing Skype account). As the user moves, you move too, in real-time. You can give the user an interactive walk-through of your model, etc. Here is an article about Unype. And a user-generated video And here is a forum for questions, etc. Next version will enable you insert models that will be automatically shared by the other user (you insert your model into your Google Earth, the model also gets inserted into other user's Google Earth). cheers, M."

GE Sharing: Cross-platform Position Sharing for Google Earth [+]
Ogle Earth discuss GE Sharing, a new tool to share Google Earth positions that is cross-platform. From the blog: "We fired up Google Earth (he on a PC, me on a Mac) by double-clicking on the file. My KML file contains two network links, selectable via radio buttons — one for serving my position and view, and one for following Nazz's position and view. [...] How is this different from Unype? Because GE Sharing doesn't rely on the Windows API, it is platform independent. However, for the same reason, it can't do some things Unype does, like layer visibility syncing, avatar depiction and model sharing."

The main page say "MS Windows 2000/XP only". Will there eventually be other operating systems support? That would be nice...

And here's the PR (I refused the submission as a main page story since this was covered recently):

Anonymous Voxel [unype.com] writes "Unype 0.2 is now out:

      http://unype.com/ [unype.com]

Unype 0.2 provides a multi-user Google Earth experience using your Skype
    account:

    * you can see online users around you inside Google Earth

    * you can see all online users under 'Temporary Places/Unype Users'

    * you can specify your own avatar ( any Collada file that GE supports )

    * you can click on users' avatars to get more information about them,
add them, chat or talk with them.

    * you can insert 'shared models' when you are connected with a user.
This is useful when you want to show someone a model interactively. You
can even specify Google 3D Warehouse page links, Unype will extract the
3D model info from that page link.

    * you can synchronize your layer visibility settings to make sure that
you are seeing the same layers

    * of course you can still follow/lead other users

One of the first things you may want to do is 'pick an avatar for
yourself' in the 'Options' dialog and also specify a scale ( such as
10-20 ) so that you can see your avatar from relatively high altitudes.

Take it for a spin if you'd like to play with others in Google Earth."
