The Google Earth Blog discuss the new photo geocoding capabilities of Picasa Web Albums. Picasa, the application, was already able to to geocode photos in collaboration with Google Earth. From the official blog;: "First, we're excited to let you know about 'Map My Photos' -- it lets you show exactly where you took your favorite snapshots. When you share an album with friends, they can see your best photos arrayed on a map (or even Google Earth). It's the perfect way to showcase a memorable road trip or a globe-trotting vacation. [...] But wait! There's more. We're also launching the first version of Picasa Web Albums built specifically for mobile devices." Meanwhile, Ogle Earth compares this new offering with Flickr and Panoramio.

Your Picasa photo albums exported to KML in Google Earth? Consider this done. From the Ogle Earth blog, in addition to Picasa web albums (CNET and Google Blogoscoped), geotagged photos will be exported directly in Google Earth. From the blog: "We'll have to await a formal announcement to see wether this also heralds server-hosted My Places for Google Earth, in addition to Picasa photos. It would certainly be in keeping with the direction Google has been heading in for its most recent launches." Also, from a GB comment: "you can Geotag your pictures in Google Earth, automatically creating a KML file with no need to know programming. I could see people sharing picture tours using [Picasa] and KML, and sharing the link via Google Maps." Here's the official announcement (web sharing).

The Google Earth Blog discuss different ways to browse geotagged photos in Google Earth, especially those found on Flickr. From the blog: "But, as more people start geotagging their photos, and more cameras come out with built-in GPS/geotagging capabilities, we will see a lot larger number of photos. The idea of showing rated photos is a particularly useful concept and will become important as we get larger numbers of photos geotagged." He also mentions Picasa 2.5 Beta photo geotagging capabilities.
Flickr Adds Geotagging 3 comments

The Map Room and scrappad, along with Slashdot, discuss the addition of geotagging photos in Flickr. From the official blog: "There are a couple of short video tutorials (or "screencasts") which give the 90 second overview on how to geotag your own photos and how to use all the controls for searching and exploring geotagged photos. [...] But if you just want to jump in and start geotagging, open the new 'map' tab in the organizr and go for it. It's all drag and drop and easy to figure out. Since location information has its own privacy setting -- so you can keep the location the photo was taken private, even when the photo is public -- you'll be asked to set a default privacy setting before beginning."
Three Hidden(ish) Flickr Map Features

Industry: KML Support in Google Maps Improved
[+]
Spatially Adjusted discuss the new improvements of kml support in Google Maps. From the official blog: "We've now got a few more tricks that you can do with KML on Maps: View entire photo sets as self-contained KMZ files, as exported by Picasa. We were going to write up how it's done, but Brian's blog post pretty much covers it. Check out his geo-tagged photos of Mallory Cave. View KML Overlays. Add your own imagery directly on top of Maps. For example, take the GroundOverlay example from the official KML tutorial and just throw the photo of Mt. Etna onto Google Maps. Use your own customized marker icons."
Industry: Google Purchase Panoramio
[+]
The Official Google Blog informs us Google purchased Panoramio. From the blog: "Panoramio is a community photos website that enables digital photographers to geo-locate, store and organize their photographs -- and to view those photographs in Google Earth. Other users can search and browse Panoramio photos and suggest edits to the metadata associated with the photos. Panoramio also offers an API that enables web developers to embed Panoramio functionality into their websites. [...] This layer will remain in place as our teams work together toward further integrating this amazing content, generated by many, into our mapping technologies." The GEB adds some more information.
Show Flickr sets as KML on Google Maps
[+]
Ogle Earth informs us you can now easily show Flickr sets as KML on Google Maps using open source PHP code. From the Adam Franco's blog: "One of the things I (and others) have found lacking when working with geotagged images on Flickr, is the inability to retrieve a “photo set” (Flickr’s take on a slideshow) as a KML document that can then be displayed in GoogleEarth, GoogleMaps, or other geo-browsers. Flickr provides some KML links and GeoRSS feeds, but these are either limited to 20 items or can only be pointed at tags or users’ photo-streams, not a particular photo set."
Mapplet to Browse Geotagged Picasa Photos
[+]
The official Google Lat Long blog informs us of a new mapplet to browse geotagged Picasa Web Albums on Google Maps. From the post: "Now we have a new Mapplet that lets you search and browse all of the geolocated photos in Google Maps. Just click here to add the Picasa Web Albums Mapplet to your "My Maps" tab. Then, zoom in to your favorite spot on Google Maps, enable our Mapplet and watch the photos roll in! You can see what snapshots exist of your favorite getaway or take a virtual vacation to Paris. The world is your oyster." See also related stories.
