The Earth is Square runs two stories regarding NASA World Wind. The first one is about a new 3D brazilian virtual globe built over NWW code: "The free portal now has a 2.700 Brazilian cities with street level and geocoding searches. We also support routes in 600 Brazilian cities and the end of 2007 holds up to 400 Brazilian cities with ortho imagery." The second story is a java satellite tracker built on NWW Java: "This application allows you to predict the position of any satellite in real time or in the past or future. It uses advanced SGP4/SDP4 algorithms developed by NASA/NORAD to propogate the satellite orbits." This previous story will tell about other such software.

Very Spatial links to a tiny press release about China-Brazil cooperation on cartography and GIS. From the tiny PR: "The accord is aimed at improving both sides' cartography and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), as well as their environmental monitoring techniques and research."
Satellite Tracking and Vulnerabilities
[+]
All Points Blog links to an article about satellite tracking, claiming tools such as Google Earth make them vulnerable. From the article: "Writing in a paper titled "Risk and vulnerability games. The anti-satellite weaponry (ASAT)," Gheorghe and Vamanu conclude, "In theory, the ASAT ballistic hit looks quite a doable stunt. ...One may safely assume that any country in possession of intermediate range vectors may mount an ASAT adventure..."
"It's an awareness paper," said Gheorghe in a phone interview, who aims to make it clear that satellites aren't merely vulnerable to nations with demonstrated anti-satellite capabilities but to a far broader group. " The article refers to Orbitron, a free (but not open source) Windows satellite tracking software. My delicious account reminds my of other satellite tracking software.
