After weeks of waiting, EarthBrowser 3.0 is out for public consumption. Head on over here to view it. "EarthBrowser is a revolutionary new platform for viewing and creating geographically based information. Based on Adobe AIR, EarthBrowser has an integrated web browser and can be seamlessly installed and updated right from this web page."

From the Digital Geography summary : "Earth Browser 3 is Flash /Adobe Air based, and in a number of respects will be a genuine alternative to Google Earth, indeed possibly a better classroom tool for studying certain topics, especially weather and tectonics. Here’s a quick preview of how the application is looking at the moment."

    My first impression is positive. Adobe Air installation was transparent and EarthBrowser itself is surprisingly fast.

    However, I fail to find a reason why I would pay for it while there is so much competition in the land of the free (e.g. Google Earth, Microsoft Virtual Earth, etc) and open source (e.g. NASA World Wind, OSSIMPlanet, etc).
