Pitney Bowes MapInfo announced the release of MapInfo Professional 9.5. Available mid June 2008, some key new functionality includes: new data editing tools, support for Oracle Database 11g and Microsoft SQL Server 2008, and support for .NET. Hopefully Pitney Bowes will be aggresive in improving the MapInfo product line. I'm curious what the reviews and commentary will be for this release. More info and an eval version available for download here.

Tommy's Scratchpad brings us news about mapservers latest release. From the blogs summary : "We just released beta1 yesterday. And lots of new features (enhanced templating, SQL Server 2008 support, Google API support for tiling) and bug fixes. Oh, and the OGC support grows; WCS 1.1, WFS 1.1, SOS 1.0.0 to name a few new implementations. While full CITE compliance is not quite complete for some of these, I think the initial implementations are very solid, and have already passed many of the CITE assertions."

Reviews: MapInfo Professional Version 9.5 Review 1 comment

Directions Magazine offers a review of MapInfo Professional 9.5. Last month, APB linked to another review by a non-geo professional. MapInfo Pro 9.5 was announced last June. Part of the DM conclusion: "The new product feedback function will allow Pitney Bowes MapInfo to collect and analyze user feedback from more of its users going forward. Users should find that the new features in MapInfo Professional v9.5 make the product easier to use and it displays better output. Users who need to edit spatial data will find the MapCAD tools very useful for their workflows and users who access spatial data in Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server database now have updated functionality to access these databases. Developers can now use the .Net integration to customize MapInfo Professional or to add GIS functionality to their applications. "
